Free State Stadium, also known as Vodacom Park, is located near the planned FIFA and team hotels in Bloemfontein. The stadium has hosted a number of key football and rugby union matches including the semi–final match of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup between Spain and USA, where USA shocked all in securing their place in the final.
The Bloemfontein Celtics and their fans, known as Siwelele (a Sotho term), has resulted in the emergence of football’s popularity in the city. Since, renovations, the stadium’s floodlights have been upgraded, new turnstiles and electronic scoreboards installed and the stadium’s capacity has increased to 48 000.
Free State Stadium will host five first–round matches and one round of 16 match.
